Improving Neighborhood Security and its Impact on Sustainable Security with ‎the CPTED Approach and Prolong Method Case Example: Waliasr Settlement, Bostanabad City

Abstract

The expansion of urbanization and its relationship with social and economic damage is one of the main characteristics of the country's urban development pattern in recent decades. The purpose of this research is to investigate social damage in neighborhoods in Bostanabad city with the CPTED approach. The statistical population studied in this research is the residents of Waliasr town of Bostanabad city. The statistical sample was calculated based on Cochran's formula of 354 people. Regarding validity, the survey based on the opinions of experts and specialists of the questionnaire has a good quality. Prolong method was used for data analysis. The results of the evaluation of the value and indices of access, supervision, territorialism, as well as support and facilities with the CPTED approach show that the valuable access index and the monitoring criterion for Valiasr settlement is 0.28 and also the territoriality criterion for this settlement is 0.625. And also the criterion of support and amenities with a score of 0.5, which is the lowest score for the criterion of monitoring with the indicators of the level of protective measures, the neighborhood guard, the use of cameras in the neighborhoods and also police patrols, which can be the source of the formation of social harms and anomalies in the neighborhood of Waliasr town. Also, increasing the surveillance of law enforcement and security forces by activating the public forces and increasing the number of CCTV cameras in sensitive places and if needed in different neighborhoods can be a great help in minimizing social damage and crime.
