Urban Security in New Towns
Low levels of security have become a pressing concern in contemporary new towns. This study aims to provide urban design guidelines with a focus on enhancing safety in the public spaces of Sahand New Town.
Methodology
The research follows a survey-based methodology, employing interviews and questionnaires to assess residents’ perceptions. The questionnaire items were structured using a five-point Likert scale. The sample size was determined using Cochran’s formula, resulting in 383 participants.
Data Analysis
Data were analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) via LISREL software, alongside SPSS for statistical processing.
Key Findings
The physical index scored 31.7, indicating a significant impact on residents’ sense of security.
The social variable scored 67.5, revealing a strong and direct correlation with perceived safety among citizens.
The functional variable scored 41.4, also contributing meaningfully to urban security.
Pearson’s correlation coefficient confirms a statistically significant and direct relationship between urban security and the quality of public spaces in Sahand, with a confidence level of 99%.
